The night the stairs had one step too many
Every night at the same hour there's a sound on the stairs, and when you count them, there's one step too many.
To make it scary, we didn't add any big event, just a single number that doesn't add up.
A chill usually comes from small things like that being slightly off.
How it works
- Read the two sentences at the top, then write on about what that extra step might have been.
- It's chillier if you don't explain everything.
- With several people, take turns writing a line each, then read it out loud to one another.
- If it gets scary while you're writing, it's okay to fold it up and set it aside.

It suits a night with several people sitting around. If you're writing alone, sit somewhere bright.
