Luta de Galo · A game of hopping on one foot to snatch the handkerchief
A Brazilian game of hopping on one foot and snatching your opponent's handkerchief
This is Luta de Galo ("rooster fight"), a game Brazilian children play in the yard. Hop on one foot and be the first to snatch the handkerchief tucked into your opponent's waistband to win.
With one arm folded behind your back and only the other hand in play, balance and quick reflexes grow together.
The sheet includes a picture of the game in action, the steps for playing, and a QR code for finding a video.
How it works
- Get two handkerchiefs and each tuck one halfway into the back of your waistband.
- Lift one foot, fold one arm behind your back, and go for your opponent's handkerchief with your free hand.
- If both feet touch the ground or the folded arm gets used, pause and start again; whoever snatches the handkerchief first wins.
When · with whom
A game for two players standing face to face. It works in a small yard or even a room, and it's fun for kids and grown-ups together.
