Red Light, Green Light · A game of freezing and running on cue
An American playground game of running and freezing on command
When "it" calls "Green light!" you run, and when they call "Red light!" you freeze on the spot. American kids play it on the playground, and it's a cousin of Korea's "Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed".
Get caught moving and it's back to the starting line, so kids build the skill of listening closely and stopping their bodies right away.
The sheet includes a picture of the game in action, the steps for playing, and a QR code for finding a video.
How it works
- One player is "it" and stands far away with their back turned; everyone else lines up at the starting line.
- Run on "Green light!" and stop right away on "Red light!" If you're caught moving, go back to the starting line.
- The first person to gently tap the caller becomes the next caller.
When · with whom
Three players are enough, and it's even more fun with a crowd. It's best somewhere with room to run, like a playground or a big yard.
