Map of Memories
That childhood neighborhood, from memory alone
A map for drawing the neighborhood or house you lived in as a child, from memory alone.
It isn't meant to be an accurate map, so the page has no lines on it at all.
As you draw the space, stories you'd forgotten come along with it.
How it works
- First, draw one place you remember in the middle of the page.
- Then add what comes to mind beside it, one by one — the alleys, the shops.
- Things you can't see, like smells and sounds, are worth writing in as words too.
- When it's done, trace the roads with your fingertip and recall what happened along them.
When · with whom
Draw it alone, or have parents or grandparents each draw their own map, then lay them side by side and talk.
