Drawing the Things Beside You
As if seeing one thing beside you for the first time
It's a sheet for spending ten minutes looking at one object that's always been beside you, and drawing it.
Since it's about the time spent looking rather than drawing skill, we left the page without a single line on it.
The moment something familiar turns strange is the heart of this activity.
How it works
- Pick one object within reach and set it in front of you.
- Before you draw, pause for a moment and quietly look at how each part is shaped.
- For ten minutes, draw it just as your eyes take it in. It doesn't have to look like the real thing.
- When you're done and look at the real object again, it will look different from the first time.
When · with whom
It's a good activity to do on your own. Especially on days when everything rushed by and nothing really caught your eye.
