Work Story Interview with a Grown-Up
An interview asking a grown-up close to you about a day in their work
This is a one-page interview where you ask a grown-up nearby about a day in their work and write down exactly what you hear.
It uses the same format as the Grown-up's Old Days Interview, but what you ask about is the work they do now, not the past.
There's no sorting jobs into good or bad. You only listen to how that day unfolds.
How it works
- Choose a grown-up to tell the story, and first write down who is telling it and what work they do.
- Read the question in the middle aloud, and write the answer on the lines below exactly as you heard it.
- If they pause, wait without rushing them. It's fine if you can't write it all down.
- When you've finished writing, read it together and jot down anything more you'd like to ask in the margin.
When · with whom
A child can ask a grown-up, or grown-ups can ask each other. It works especially well when someone is thinking about their future path.
A place to write in the interview
- What was the day you first started that work like? — And what moments are still good now?
