Kagome Kagome · A game of guessing the friend behind you when the song ends
A Japanese game where you guess which friend is right behind you when the song ends
This is Kagome Kagome, a song Japanese children have sung for ages. “Kagome” means the woven mesh pattern of a basket.
Everyone circles the blindfolded player who's “it” while singing, and when the song ends, that player guesses who is right behind them by their voice and the sounds they make.
The sheet includes a picture of the game in action, the steps for playing, and a QR code for finding a video.
How it works
- The player who's “it” sits in the middle with their eyes covered, and everyone else holds hands and stands in a circle.
- Walk around the circle while singing, and when the song ends, stop right where you are.
- If the player who's “it” guesses the name of the person right behind them, that person becomes “it” next.
When · with whom
A quiet circle game for five or more. You can play it indoors, too.
